Medicare Billing – the Wrong Way

P1-AY723_MedPhy_G_20101221175351Nothing new in this Wall Street Journal article, super-slimy doctor scams Medicare for millions.  Just look at the guy, of course he was a scammer.  He is the very nature of what we are against at the PT Project.  We work our tails off to further the ethical  (and legal) practice of PT.

I would like to start the discussion on how to PROPERLY make money on Medicare.  Do any of you have tips on proper paperwork / billing procedures for Medicare.  I think this would be a great discussion.

I found this guide does anyone have a guide that they like?

He practiced 20 miles from me. This is common in South Florida. Drives me crazy!

Documentation is crucial. Check out the APTA website for “Defensible Documentation” guidelines ( you have to be a APTA member to access the info) http://bit.ly/fN331g. Also, will email you a CMS document that you can post regarding the specific Medicare documentation requirements needed for the POCs.

I think its great that this guy was able to teach his office girls to be PTs! I think I’m going to teach my office girls to be PCPs so they can prescribe my patients meds when I think their necessary. He seems to be full of good, ethical ideas!

Miami is said to have invented the professional patent. Local Medicare providers pay pts to use their services in PT and OT.

Bruce,
I think thats crazy! I read some of your earlier blogs on physician owned practices being an issue in Miami but didn’t realize it was that bad until reading this article. We have some up here in Pittsburgh but I think it definately seems to be much more prevelant and to a larger extent in other regions!

I have a very interesting practise over the last 30 years. I have fought long and hard for quality PT in Miami. Won some and lost some. If was not for personal satisfaction I would have many running stores and a large race production company. Hands on PT is important to me but limits my time for other stuff.
