The NY Times Seeks the Perfect Exercise
A NY Times article over the weekend sought to find the silver bullet exercise, the one perfect exercise.
The article “What is the Single Best Exercise”, is an example of how there is not one perfect exercise that can incorporate all physiological benefits possible while at the same time be fun and sustainable for the participant. The exercises discussed in the article such as the butterfly, burpee or weight training may be good for one person but probably not the best idea for someone who has never exercised before in their life.
I believe it is important to have a variable exercise routine and a well balanced diet to maintain health and wellness throughout ones life. Depending on goals and prior fitness levels are really what would determine what exercise would be best for a certain individual.
For the average sedentary person, beginning a brisk walking program would be the best exercise. It’s easy as we all know how to walk, not overly stressful on the body, takes no prior knowledge of exercise, and can be done just about anywhere, whether on a treadmill or outside on the street.
Most people will agree that some exercise routine is important. What is equally as important is to find the best exercise for each person that will produce physiological benefits and at the same time keep the person interested so they will continue to maintain the program.
